Europa League semi-final draw: Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid, Marseille vs Red Bull Salzburg

The Europa Semi Final draw had finally been drawn and the semifinalist been Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Olympique Marseille and Fc Red Bull Salzburg would be battling to continue the race come April 26 and May 3.

The Gunners faced off CSKA Moscow to get their ticket for the final four in the Europa tournament with an aggregate score board reading 6 – 3 in Arsenals favor. It was a tug of war on Russian grounds as CSKA Moscow took it though with the Gunners causing the game to end with a 2 – 2 score. The game was rather different over on English grounds as Arsenal wasted no time in taking to the lead and winning the game.

Who is to blame the Gunners as it’s an absolute necessity for Arsene Wengers men to lift the Europa trophy being Arsenals only ticket to the Champions league next season. Arsenal presently sits on the 6th position in the European Premier League and if Arsenal intend to advance the Gunners are to defeat their Europa Semi Final opponent; Atletico Madrid.

On the other face of the coin both Olympique Marseille and FC Red Bull Salzburg has been drawn to a semi-final tie. This combat is one that can’t be fully over looked as both teams handled great come backs to take their place in the final 4, we could only wait to watch who amazes us in pressing on to the trophy.

The first legs between the teams will be played on the 26th of April, with the second legs to follow on the 3rd of May.

Atletico Madrid been the tournaments favorite progressed by defeating Sporting Lisbon, coming back from its 1 – 0 loose on Portuguese ground follow the Thursday evening. Diego Simeone’s and his men are currently placed second on the LaLiga table behind Barcelona.

After Thursdays match in Moscow when at one point Arsenal had been a goal away from elimination, Arsenals boss Arsene Wenger spoke on how he would rather not meet with Atletico in the final 4.

“Looking at all the results as a whole picture in Europe this week, you would say that teams have become closer and the games are very open and everything is possible in every single game,” Wenger said.

“Everybody speaks about Atletico Madrid that they look the strongest team on paper, but you must say when you look at the results that Salzburg have done again… I am from France and Marseille are in there as well and that is always a difficult place to go… maybe it is better that I don’t wish for anybody.”
